No no....this is an exception for those of you planning to get a "dibidi" copy.
You still have time to watch this in a nice movie house since it's only on its first-week running.
If you love ancient war histories and tactics If you love blood and violence If you love war movies IF you love pc and other online games, If you love photography (oh i love the grainy visuals, and the monochrome touch!) If you love to experience a more than two-hour visual feast GO ahead, reserve/ get that friggen' ticket and watch in a nice movie house. And I mean, NICE moviehouse. Do not deprive your eyes of a visual orgasm.
This movie is based on Frank Miller's graphic novel, and of course 300 refers to the number of elite soldiers the famous Spartan King Leonidas brought against the hundreds of thousands of Persians at the Battle of Thermopylae. The awesome part in this movie is the actual discipline and competence shown by the Greek Phalanx in a battle. Very impresssssive!
Quite rare to find myself in an audience that shows appreciation for a good movie, we ended up clapping our hands after the last scene (one of the many reasons why I still choose GB3 as my fave cinema, i like the audience ^_^) was shown.
Hmn...I still am speechless. I wanna watch it again

For the first 10 "Chapters", all you hear is the call "Save the Cheerleader, Save the World." Then Chapter 11 moves forward with the words wringing "Are you on the list?" If you are familiar of these phrases, then you are watching one of the hottest TV series in the US today - Heroes.
Maybe I am already late discovering the show, since I haven't been watching TV the past months. First time I have heard of this was from my Boss. Then came this blinking avatar on a website. I am not certain whether a cable channel here in the Philippines has started airing the show. (Starworld ?) Till I started watching Episode 1. And the rest is a history...of sleeping two late nights, watching marathon of episodes 1-14. Hopefully tonight, I will be able to reach episode 17, before NBC airs its 18th episode in the US next week.
I like it because Tim Kring's creation appeals to those who grew up reading comic books of superheroes and mutants. It also appeals to sci-fi fanatics and the tastes of paranormal activities. And how the mysteries unfold each series would make you crave for the next episode, and the next, and the next...and before you know it, you started wanting the next episodes.
“Heroes” is a serial saga about people all over the world discovering that they have superpowers and trying to deal with how this change affects their lives.
I will not introduce each "Hero" character here. In fact, I will even discourage you when you intend "to google" info about the show, not until you have started a few episodes. You know why? It's actually cool to watch their superpower abilities unfold before your eyes, somehow reminds you of this "mutant" or "comic book" character, this time in a very realistic manner.
There were other TV series in the past that attempted to have this storyline. But what makes this more interesting to me is uncertain as well. It's a mystery. Maybe I just miss The X-Files. Maybe its the way Tim Kring supervises the show. Or simply the interesting theory here on human evolution.
Interesting, isn't it? Next episode please.

An accidental discovery of this Japanese film.
And I turn lesbo just watching her kill. Azumi, the character played by Aya Ueto, is amazing, displaying grace and strength whenever she draws out her sword and fight.
For those of you who love anime, watch this. For those of you who love kick-ass girls, better feast your eyes on this. If you love samurai-movies, watch this. If you love Samurai X aka Rorouni Kenshin, this is "somewhat" his female version, so better be envious. She's a lovely graceful killing machine.
I can't say no more, I just love her. Or heck, maybe I am envious. I wish I'm also good in swords.
This Japanese movie is based on a manga (Japanese comic book) created by Yu Koyama. Azumi, at a very young age, was part of a group trained to be Assassins. I will stop from here. You can start thinking of Kenshin Hemura in female flesh.
This movie was released in Japan in 2003 and the sequel, Azumi 2: Death or Love in 2005. I have yet to watch the second, hence I am now hunting for the second one. They just released the DVD version in the US last year.
Well, there are some questionable action scenes in the first movie, questionable coz I found myself saying "how did that happen?", but what the hell, she is awesome! ^_^
Ok. Enough of Samurai. I am now yearning for a katana myself.

I don't wanna be a product of my environment, I want my environment to be a product of me. - Frank Costello (Jack Nicholson)
I don't do reviews. I tend to simulate a black and white perspective towards movies, music, food, whatever.
But for the purpose of commendation, I had to sample a movie I've waited to see for a couple of months.
The Departed is worth the wait.
I won't even dare discuss the typical plot, character, cinematography jargon of film critiques. But this I know: this movie isn't a typical "hollywood" film. Something in the way it was directed reminds me of anime'ish touch.
When you shoot a person, just shoot him and he falls dead on the floor. No dramatic exchanges. No "hasta la vista, baby". Just pull the trigger BANG and you're dead.
I have to commend Leonardo Di Caprio on this one. His acting damn improved. Maybe its just me. But he is a perfect example that good looks can act. Never mind Tom Cruise or Brad Pitt who the camera pans closely and adoringly...epitomizing first and foremost THE good looks...prior acting. But Leo can own a scene...and you will at one point, forget about his looks. And be moved to his film character.
I never liked him, honestly. The only film he did I ever liked was Catch Me If You Can. The Departed though has clearly shown this matinee idol is an actor.
I will bet this movie will make it to the Oscars. Well done, Martin Scorsese. (jqp10.19.06)
